12:15-12:30: Symposium in Lecture Theatre, A01Ultrasound-guided, open-source microneurography

Dunham JP

This talk will give an overview of the recent publication in Clinical Neurophysiology showing the technical & experimental advances that can be made using ultrasound guidance & Open Ephys, leading onto a broader discussion of the difficulties and rewards of C-nociceptor recordings.

Microneurography is the only method for recording from single neurons in intact human nerves. It is challenging - requiring technical expertise, investment in specialised equipment and has sparse data yields. We assessed whether ultrasound guidance in combination with an ‘open access’ amplifier and data capture system (Open-Ephys) would simplify and expand the scope of microneurographic recordings in humans.
